A Muscat courtyard house is a good place to put a sauna and a cold pool: the walls are thick, the open space is private, shade is built in and the view is of whitewash, arches and mountain. The risk is not heat but taste. A cabin that ignores the architecture spoils it, and a plunge that sits above the floor instead of in it looks like an afterthought. Arabic searchers type ساونا مسقط; English ones type "sauna muscat" and "cold plunge muscat".
The courtyard as a suite
- A plunge set into the floor. A square pool, about 1.2 m, flush with the stone paving and with a travertine seat edge, reads as a water feature before it reads as equipment.
- A glass-front cabin in a recess. A cabin with one full-height glass front under a colonnade, lit from within at dusk, gives the arches something to answer.
- Shade from the house itself. Walls and arcades already shade the pool for much of the day; we add a pergola or a lid only where the sun still reaches the water.
- Privacy by plan. Inner courts are private by design; a roof terrace is not, and we close its sight lines with screens and frosted glass.
A hot, humid coast with rock close behind
At Seeb, Muscat's airport station, the mean daily maximum is 38.0 °C in July, and January averages 25.1 °C by day and 16.7 °C by night (Oman Directorate General of Meteorology normals for 1986-2009, via the WMO World Weather Information Service); Oman's electrical standard designs buildings for a maximum ambient of 50 °C and relative humidity up to 100% (OES-4, 2019).
On the coast the air is humid and salty in summer, so cold coping and glass sweat and the plant needs a coated coil and stainless fittings; inland, behind the mountains, the air is drier. For a plant niche the rules are the same everywhere: shade, a clear air path, a filter and room for service.
Qurum, Al Mouj and the resorts
Villas in districts such as Qurum and Al Mouj, and the small resorts and eco-lodges of the coast, make up most of the briefs we expect: a courtyard suite for a family, or a plunge and a cabin as the feature of a boutique property. Qurum and Al Mouj are named only to illustrate the property types; they are not references. For the mountain lodges and for Salalah's monsoon-season climate, see Oman.

Supply, rial and VAT in an Omani quote
Oman Electrical Standard OES-4 (third edition, 2019) specifies 415/240 V ±6%, three-phase four-wire, at 50 Hz for buildings.
The Omani rial has been pegged at 2.6008 US dollars since 1986, about 0.3845 rials to the dollar (Central Bank of Oman).
Oman's VAT is 5% (US International Trade Administration, 2025), and duties on imports from outside the GCC are generally not more than 10% (same source), so we ask your customs broker to confirm the rate for the product codes.
A courtyard-villa suite, priced for Muscat
A smaller suite pairs a 2-seat cabin with a compact ice bath; a hotel deck uses a hot and cold pair. The price guide and the suite builder show the figures.
Delivery, summer and the calendar
In Oman the Ministry of Labour sets a midday outdoor work period from 12:30 to 15:30 between 1 June and 31 August; permits are available to establishments that apply approved safety controls (Ministry of Labour, 2026).
Plan deliveries and outdoor installation outside those hours and outside the weeks around Eid; the dates for the coming year are worked in planning around Ramadan and the season.
How much does a sauna cost in Muscat?
A 2-seat glass cabin starts around $8.4–11.5k (SAR 32–43k) and a 4-seat cabin around $11.5–16.5k (SAR 43–62k), before civil works, power, permits, duties and delivery. See the price guide.
Can I put a cold plunge in a courtyard?
Yes; a square or round pool set into the courtyard floor is the natural fit. The layout draws the recess, the drain and the plant niche, and asks about the floor structure and the nearest permitted discharge point.
What does an ice bath in Oman cost?
A compact free-standing ice bath with a chiller is about $5.7–8.2k (SAR 21–31k); a built-in plunge pool starts at $16.7–28k (SAR 63–105k). See free-standing ice baths.
Do you also build outdoor saunas for resorts and lodges?
Yes: flat-roofed, glass-faced cabins on a groomed deck, shaded and screened. See terrace saunas and hotels and resorts.
