Oman is the one country of the five with two different summers. On the Muscat coast the months are hot and humid and the plunge carries the terrace. At Salalah the same months are the khareef, the monsoon season, and the weather asks other things of a sauna, a plunge and the people using them. Behind both lie mountains, eco-resorts and lodges whose first question is the power.
Muscat and Salalah, side by side in the same months
At Seeb, Muscat's airport station, the mean daily maximum is 38.0 °C in July, and January averages 25.1 °C by day and 16.7 °C by night (Oman Directorate General of Meteorology normals for 1986-2009, via the WMO World Weather Information Service); Oman's electrical standard designs buildings for a maximum ambient of 50 °C and relative humidity up to 100% (OES-4, 2019).
Salalah's mean daily maximum is only 28.5 °C in July and 27.1 °C in August, the khareef monsoon season, against 27.5 °C by day and 18.7 °C by night in January (Oman Directorate General of Meteorology normals for 1986-2009, via the WMO World Weather Information Service).
Side by side, Salalah's July afternoons are 9.5 °C cooler than Muscat's and only 1.0 °C warmer than its own January afternoons, so the khareef is the mild, monsoon-wet season. A plunge there asks little of its chiller and more of its surroundings: a roof over the plant, a deck that drains, a lid against rain. On the Muscat coast it is the other way round; an outdoor sauna and tub across the seasons plans the year.
A lodge that makes its own power: the load list
A 2-seat cabin takes a Harvia 4.5 kW heater and is the lever if the plant is small. Give the lodge's electrical engineer these figures and ask what the inverter and the battery can carry; sizing a plunge chiller in 45 °C air shows how the heat is counted.
A mountain lodge priced for six rooms
Six rooms with two guests each is twelve guests. A 4-seat cabin turns 12 guests an hour on 15-minute sessions with a five-minute changeover, so on that arithmetic the whole house fits inside one evening hour, and a square plunge with a stone seat edge takes two at a time for short dips. On the same arithmetic a lodge of this size needs no more than four seats.
| Illustrative lodge suite | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| 4-seat glass cabin | $11.5–16.5k |
| Square plunge with a stone seat edge, with its 4 HP chiller | $17.7–30k |
| Stone-and-timber deck | $1.1–2k |
| The suite | $30.3–48.5k (SAR 114–182k) |
Civil works, connections, permits, duties, tax and hoisting are left out. Panels are cut to the vehicle that can make the last kilometres and the pool's lining and plant arrive in crates, so tell us the road's width, bends and gradient before the layout is frozen. See cold plunge pools, terrace saunas, the price guide and the suite builder.
Oman's Ministry of Labour sets a midday outdoor work period from 12:30 to 15:30 between 1 June and 31 August, with permits available to establishments that apply approved safety controls (Ministry of Labour, 2026). Terrace days at a lodge are planned around it; planning around Ramadan and the season shows the order of the sums.

What changes at the Omani border: supply, rial and tax
Oman specifies a 415/240 V ±6% three-phase four-wire supply at 50 Hz for buildings (Oman Electrical Standard OES-4, third edition, 2019). A lodge on its own generator or solar plant is a separate question, answered by the load list above.
Our ranges are in US dollars with Saudi riyals beside them. The Omani rial has been pegged at 2.6008 US dollars since 1986, about 0.3845 rials to the dollar (Central Bank of Oman). A quote in Omani rials is issued on request.
Oman's VAT is 5% (US International Trade Administration, 2025), and duties on imports from outside the GCC are generally not more than 10% (same source), so we ask your customs broker to confirm the rate for the product codes. Freight, duty and VAT are separate lines on our quotes.
Oman's wellness figure, and what it does not tell a lodge
The Global Wellness Institute counts an Omani wellness economy of $4.13 billion in 2024, fourth of the five countries on this site (Country Rankings 2019–2024, January 2026). It says nothing about eco-lodges and boutique resorts (hotels and resorts), whose numbers are rooms, evening-hour guests and the power available. For the coast see Muscat; an operator with sites in several countries will find the lines above change at each border, as Saudi Arabia and Qatar show.
Does the khareef change when a cold plunge makes sense in Salalah?
In those months the air is mild, so the plant has little to do and a plunge works all year. The khareef changes the care more than the equipment: a roof over the plant, a deck that drains, the lid on against rain and the timber oiled on the schedule in the care sheet.
Can a sauna run on a lodge's solar and battery plant?
It is a question of kilowatts and kilowatt-hours, not of principle. Take the load list above to the lodge's electrical engineer: a 2-seat cabin needs a 4.5 kW heater, a 4-seat cabin 8 kW, and a chiller adds 0.9 to 3.6 kW while its compressor runs.
How does a plunge pool reach a mountain terrace?
The pool is formed in a recess on site, its lining, steps and plant arrive in crates and the cabin as numbered panels, so the road decides. Tell us the width, bends and gradient of the last kilometres and whether a crane can reach the terrace; the quote states who offloads and when.
Do you cover Salalah and the mountains?
A project is quoted from the plan and photos wherever the site is, with freight to the site stated. The coast has its own page, Muscat; this page covers the mountains and Salalah.
